Otoplasty
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct various ear imperfections, such as prominent ears, asymmetry, cup ears, or torn earlobes. This surgery can significantly improve the shape and position of the ears, providing a more balanced and aesthetic appearance.
What is otoplasty?
Otoplasty is the surgery that allows us to correct deformities of the external ear, the most common being the correction of prominent ears, which usually develop during childhood. This surgery can also be used to correct secondary defects or deformities of post-traumatic origin.
FaceArt otoplasty techniques?
At FaceArt, we analyze each case individually to determine which parts of the ear anatomy need correction to achieve a harmonious and natural result. The most common corrections include:
-
Auricular concha reduction : allows reducing the angle of ear prominence, bringing it closer to the head.
-
Definition of the antihelix fold : allows bringing the auricular helix closer to the head, eliminating "elf ears".
-
Reduction of the antitragus : allows correction of the lateralized position of the earlobe.
Other FaceArt otoplasty techniques:
In addition to correcting prominent ears, at FaceArt we also offer other otoplasty techniques, such as:
-
Lobuloplasty : Corrects earlobe deformities, such as torn, dilated, or lobes attached to the skin of the face (“demon ears” or “pixie ears”)
Surgical data for FaceArt otoplasty:
-
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia, with the option to combine it with oral or intravenous sedation.
-
Hospitalization: No hospitalization is required.
-
Surgery duration:
-
Bilateral otoplasty: 90–120 minutes.
-
Lobuloplasty: 15 minutes per side.
-
-
Incisions:
-
Otoplasty: An incision is made behind the ear, which is imperceptible in most cases. In some cases, a minimal incision may also be made on the front part of the ear.
-
Lobuloplasty: An incision is made in the earlobe, depending on the patient’s deformity and while respecting symmetry between both earlobes
FaceArt Otoplasty Recovery:
-
Recovery time: Recovery from otoplasty depends on each individual case and the technique used. Generally, the patient can return to their normal activities within a week.
-
Post-operative period :
-
Discomfort: It is normal to experience slight bleeding, small scabs, and discomfort that can be controlled with oral analgesics.
-
Bandaging: During the first week after surgery, a headband or bandage should be worn to ensure correct positioning during the healing process.
