What is blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery, helps eliminate the sad appearance caused by drooping upper eyelids. The causes can vary and require an accurate diagnosis: drooping of the tail of the eyebrow, excess eyelid skin (dermatochalasis), fat atrophy (a hollow or skeletonized eye appearance), or excessive laxity of the ligaments that support the eyelid (eyelid ptosis).

Lower blepharoplasty, or lower eyelid surgery, helps eliminate the tired appearance caused by infraorbital bags and a lax lower eyelid.

In these cases, we treat both the herniation of the orbital fat and the excess infraorbital skin, and we assess the resuspension of the eyelid corner (canthopexy).

Blepharoplasty Techniques:

At FaceArt we offer the main techniques in oculoplastics to adapt to the specific needs of each patient:

  • Skin resection : Removes excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids, correcting dermatochalasis (hanging skin) and improving the texture and tone of the eyelid.

  • Reduction or transposition of fat pads: This procedure eliminates under-eye bags and corrects the appearance of sunken eyes (tear trough and tear valley) by redistributing eyelid volume, thus rejuvenating the lower eye area.

  • Brow lift or eyebrow lift : Repositions the eyebrow above the orbital arch through imperceptible incisions, correcting drooping eyebrows and opening up the eyes.

  • Muller's muscle advancement or Mullerectomy: Corrects eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelid) by lifting the levator muscle of the upper eyelid.

  • Autologous fat grafting or other filler tissues: Disguises sunken eyes and fills in creases and dark circles, adding volume to the periorbital area.

Surgical data for FaceArt blepharoplasty:

  • Surgery duration: Between 1 and 2 hours.

  • Anesthesia: Oral sedation or intravenous sedation, according to the patient's preferences.

  • Hospitalization: Hospitalization is not necessary.

  • Recovery: After surgery, you should rest for 5-7 days and can resume moderate physical activity from the second week onwards. Thanks to the skin quality of the eyelid, the scar is virtually imperceptible with the eyes closed and completely invisible with the eyes open.
